As a comic strip lover for almost 50 years already, I fell in love with the creations of Belgian strip artist André Franquin in the '70's.
Of the man was once said that half of Europe shamelessly copied his style while the other half desperately tried not to. Unfortunately he died way too soon (in 1997).
This funky cat from Gaston Flater is just one of his many wonderful creations and I thought I gave him a very nice environment, thus also paying tribute to Bob Ross and to TwoInchBrush.
Thank you André, for what you've given the world all those years!
Please enjoy!
Coloured pencils and black ballpoint pen on drawing paper 3"x3".
Tom, for sure one of the nicest compliments I received. Thank you so much for your respect, integrity, artistic vision and sharing great creational talent with many of us here!
This took me just under one hour and had to take a break in between, simply because tiny work is hard for me due to my .... dominant hand trouble.
I could have drown Gaston himself yet I am pretty wild about his cat as well. Looks a lot like my youngest who is alos black white AND missing a piece of its left ear.
I remember I drew the marsupilami once on an A3 paper, in my younger days .... sigh!
Hahaha, meisje, dankjewel hoor! It's a fact that Franquin was very famous in Holland as well. How that guy is missed!!!
he he..very nice V..always make me smile !
Pietro, no funky cat is happy without your comment!! 🥰😊
What a cutie! He has a really sweet yet mischievous expression on his face.
Oh indeed Lilikens, it is a real rascal. It is befriended with a gull (!!) and their boss is Gaston Flater. Ever heard of him? He was the top creation of Franquin and the only comic strip that was not allowed to be continued after his death.
So happy you like this!
This is brilliant, one of my favorites of yours
MHK, your cheers are worth millions to me!!
I haven’t heard of him but I went to see what he looks like and I enjoy your version more :) he looks more cuddly.
Thanks Lilikens! It really comes close to my youngest tomcat who is the cutest of the two and has the most kitten blood still in it (even when its already 6 years young).
Gaston Flater, I can recommend reading to everybody. Those are one page gags (in the beginning half a page gags) that really guarantees a tsunami of laughter and chuckles all the way. There are 16 albums only and I bet I read every single one of them at least ten times in those almost 50 years that I know him!
Thinking of Gaston, wherever I am, ALWAYS makes me smile and I think it's about the best comic series in the world! My humble opinion!!
